More frequent cough, sneezing, sore throat ... According to a study carried out on 6,000 people and published in the British medical journal on Tuesday, the symptoms of the English variant of Covid-19 would be a little different from those of the initial strain.

But as this virus progresses in Ile-de-France, these data still need to be deepened.

The English variant of Covid-19 is progressing strongly in Île-de-France.

It now represents 15% to 20% of cases of contamination in the region, according to reports from several laboratories, against 6% at the beginning of January.

But to know the progression of this British variant on the whole of the national territory, we will still have to wait for the results of the second Flash survey.

In addition, according to a study published Tuesday in the

British medical journal,

the symptoms of this variant seem a little different from those of the initial strain.

Loss of taste and smell, less present

To carry out this study, 6,000 people affected by the two viruses detailed their symptoms.

According to the results obtained, the cough would affect for example 35% of patients who have contracted the English variant, against 28% in people affected by Covid.

Other symptoms are also less present with the English variant, as explained to Europe 1 Rémi Salomon, president of the Medical Commission for the establishment of hospitals in Paris.

"We find with the English variant a little less of these characteristic signs that are the loss of taste or smell. There are some, but it is less frequent," says the specialist.

"On the other hand, we find more cough, perhaps also sneezing, as well as sore throat. That could explain the contagiousness, at least it is a hypothesis", he continues.

CORONAVIRUS ESSENTIALS

> What place for teleworking after the coronavirus?

> Are adolescents vectors of contamination?

> Advice from a psychotherapist to get through this period as well as possible

> How does "CleanCovid", the anti-coronavirus lamp work

> How will the citizens' committee responsible for monitoring vaccination work?

And for good reason, when we cough or sneeze, even with a mask, the virus can pass to the sides.

However, these data still need to be consolidated.

Other studies will soon be carried out in France to better compare these two viruses.
