Captain Moore, real name Tom Moore, died on Wednesday.

This was announced by the British news channel BBC.

The war veteran raised nearly 32.8 million British pounds (about 37 million euros) in donations for the British health service NHS.

Before his 100th birthday on April 30th last year, he walked 100 laps through his backyard with the walker.

In addition to the donation, he achieved a Guinness world record.

Tom Moore, who already fought in World War II, became the national symbol of solidarity and optimism in the UK during the corona pandemic.

On his 100th birthday, he had received around 125,000 greeting cards from Great Britain and around the world.

World War II warplanes thundered over his house in the tranquil village of Marston Moretaine in Bedfordshire.

Tom Moore was knighted and promoted to Colonel

Queen Elizabeth II (94) had knighted him at Windsor Castle in the summer.

The senior, who was always joking, joked that the queen should hopefully not be clumsy with the sword.

Captain Tom, who was also promoted to colonel on account of his honor, even stormed to the top of the UK charts with his own version of the soccer anthem “You'll Never Walk Alone”.

He recorded the song with British singer and actor Michael Ball and an NHS choir.

His daughter Hannah Ingram-Moore announced on Sunday evening on Twitter that the 100-year-old had been admitted to a hospital in Bedford City because he needed help with breathing.

He had previously suffered from pneumonia for several weeks.

In the past week he had tested positive for Covid-19.

Moore did not receive a vaccination against Covid-19, the BBC reported, citing a spokeswoman for the 100-year-old.

The reason for this was the medication he was given to treat his pneumonia.
