The official portrait of Emmanuel Macron was stolen at the end of December from the premises of the town hall of Fermanville (Manche).

The framework of the President of the Republic was in the village hall, transformed into a waiting room during this period of health crisis, reports

France Bleu Cotentin

.

The theft would have taken place during opening hours, so during the day.

The mayor of this town of 1,300 inhabitants decided to file a complaint.

"The portrait of the President is one of the symbols of the Republic, now is that a joke?"

In this case, it is in very bad taste, ”she said.

An open investigation

The mayor wishes to remain cautious and does not see this theft as a sign of protest, as could be the case during the movement of "yellow vests".

“I don't think we're in that version of the story.

It is important not to stigmatize and make amalgamations, ”she stressed.

The stolen frame could be replaced by a new copy.

But in addition to the portrait of Emmanuel Macron, the town hall of Fermanville also lost the official photos of the other presidents of the Fifth Republic, which were on the back of the frame.

An investigation was opened by the gendarmes.

The person responsible for this offense faces up to three years in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros.
