The proposal to move five teaching hours in the picture from high school to primary school was met with strong criticism from hundreds of subject teachers in the picture, which Kulturnyheterna previously reported on.

But now the National Agency for Education is backing away from its proposal.

- We have listened to the consultation responses and the teachers in the picture have a pressured work situation.

It tells us that even a small adjustment can make a big difference, says Pernilla Sundström Fast, unit manager at the curriculum department at the National Agency for Education.

The National Union of Teachers welcomes today's announcement.

- I think it is positive that you listen to the teachers and the experience of teaching and the subject that is out there, says Åsa Fahlén, chairman of the National Union of Teachers.

Greater benefit for high school

But in addition to the mentioned five hours in pictures, the proposal also means 10 hours more pictures for primary school.

And that is a wrong prioritization, they say.

- They would do more good for students in high school, given the structure and content of the subject.

It is also in upper secondary school that there are trained subject teachers in the picture, says Åsa Fahlén.

- What we can state is that the aesthetic subjects have an incredibly important role in the children's education throughout the school system.

And we see that for high school teachers to have the best conditions for teaching students in high school, a good and stable foundation in teaching is required, says Pernilla Sundström Fast, unit manager at the curriculum department at the National Agency for Education.
