France 5 broadcasts Tuesday evening a documentary entitled "Plastic, the toxic threat", which looks at the consequences of this material on health.

Because plastic can potentially become a major concern on a planetary scale in the years to come.

Have we underestimated the impact of plastic on our health?

This is the subject of the documentary

Plastic, the toxic threat

broadcast Tuesday evening at 8:50 p.m. on France 5 in the

Health Survey.

“We often hear about plastic in environmental terms, but very few consequences on our health,” explains director Ludivine Favrel.

Because if the consequences of plastic are still unknown, "they exist".

Particles that enter our body

"Plastic breaks down into very fine particles called microplastics or nanoplastics. And it is these particles that are able to enter our body. The whole question is therefore to know the consequences that this can have, what precisely exploring science right now. "

"We are paying the price for our inconsistency"

Research all the more important as plastic is omnipresent in our lives.

Plastic is "not expensive, it is flexible, you can do anything with it, it was magic," recalls the director.

But "we did not think that it would have these consequences. We did not anticipate what it could become in the future, and therefore we are paying the price for our inconsistency."

The documentary will be followed by a debate on plastic moderated by doctor Marina Carrère d'Encausse.
