It has been seated there for 150 years, wedged between the water basins and the immense Sillon beach.

Last week, the Notre-Dame-des-Grèves church in Saint-Malo could have known a tragedy.

The one that is often called "Rocabey church", named after the district where it was erected, was the target of an attempted fire.

Inside the religious building, parishioners discovered four fire starts on Friday morning.

Police quickly arrested a suspect.

He is a 14 year old teenager.

The young boy was taken into custody on Friday, confused by his shoe prints and by some witnesses from the neighborhood.

This young man without history admitted the facts but did not give explanations for his gesture.

The facts would have taken place Thursday just before the closing of the church.

They were not discovered until early Friday morning.

A start of fire in the wooden confessional

In the church, the police discovered four attempts to start a fire.

“Cardboard boxes, newspapers and papers had been laid out but they only burned down.

Fortunately, because it could have been dramatic, ”reports the commissioner of Saint-Malo Guillaume Catherine.

One of the departures was in the wooden confessional.

The young man will be summoned before a juvenile judge to answer for his act.
