  • The report on the poor housing of the Abbé-Pierre Foundation published on Monday underlines the increasing difficulty of certain French people to pay their rent because of the economic crisis that we are going through.

  • This is what happens to Marc, 26, who did not work enough hours before the health crisis to be able to benefit from the status of intermittent, and who no longer has enough income to pay his rent.

  • Since August, his parents have taken care of it.

At the start of 2020, everything smiled on Marc *, a 26-year-old Parisian.

“My activity as a sound engineer and orchestra manager, which I had started four years earlier, was starting to go well and I had long-term projects.

But everything ended with the confinement.

I was supposed to go on an open-air opera tour for three months, it was canceled, ”he recalls, looking down.

Then begins a period of galley, where Marc runs after the slightest professional opportunity: “I have worked on three television shows since March.

I carried out temporary assignments as a storekeeper, worked for a friend's company… ”But these temporary jobs are not enough to avoid the financial collapse.

And not too much way to count on state aid to get by: "I carried out my activity as a manager under the status of intermittent.

But in March, I had only worked 440 hours while to be entitled to unemployment benefits, you have to justify 507 hours.

And regarding my activity as a sound engineer which I carried out through a self-employed company, I have received three times 500 euros since March.

And nothing afterwards, without my understanding why.

I do not fit into any box, ”he continues.

"I don't see a return to a normal professional life before 2022"

Day after day, Marc's anguish of not being able to pay his share of the rent of his collocation, of 750 euros, rose: “My savings allowed me to do it until July.

But in August, my parents took over, ”he explains.

A heartbreak for him: “The fact that my parents pay my rent, I see it as a step backwards.

It's complicated to accept.

Besides, it took me a long time to talk to them about my financial problems, ”he says.

It is also difficult for Marc to plan for the next few months.

Should he pursue his dream of living off his passion or should he reorient himself out of necessity?

“Several friends who worked in culture have already branched off.

I plan to do 3D plans for an architect as well as speaker development.

Because I have no visibility on the start of cultural events.

And I do not see a return to a normal professional life before 2022. In the meantime, we must hold on ”.
