Bird flu has been occurring at an unusual pace since November last year.

When the cause was analyzed at the poultry farm where the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries occurred, it was found that there was a gap in which wild animals carrying the virus could invade in nearly 90%.

Since November last year, bird flu has spread to Chiba and Toyama prefectures after a series of outbreaks in poultry farms in western Japan such as Kagawa and Miyazaki prefectures, and a total of 40 outbreaks have occurred in 16 prefectures. More than 6.2 million birds have been slaughtered, the highest number ever in one season.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has dispatched a team of experts to poultry farms where bird flu has occurred to investigate the causes of infection, and has compiled the results of the survey at 30 locations so far.

It is said that the virus is often brought into the poultry house by wild animals such as rats and small birds, and in 26 places, which is close to 90% of the surveyed, gaps were found in the roof and walls, and 3 places. Then, although no gap was found, evidence of invasion such as dung and footprints that seemed to belong to a mouse was confirmed.

In addition, 19 poultry farms did not disinfect their hands when entering the poultry houses, and 13 places did not separate shoes for each poultry house.

According to national hygiene management standards, if the roof or wall of the facility is damaged, it is obligatory to repair it immediately, disinfect it when entering the poultry house, and change shoes for each poultry house. I am asking you to be thorough.
