The 26-year-old Nathan Evans from Scotland gave up his job as a postman after the huge success of his sailor's song on the social media platform Tiktok and can now make a living from his music.

"This is definitely very crazy," said Evans of the German press agency.

"It was a huge surprise."

With his cover version of the old sailor song “Wellerman” by the English band “The Longest Johns”, Evans had not only achieved a viral hit on Tiktok in the past few days, but even conquered the official British charts.

"The song just makes everyone smile," said Evans.

Especially in the current lockdown, where everyone is at home, that worked perfectly, everyone could sing along.

Thanks to his surprise success, Evans has now signed a record deal.

He left it open whether his first album would also feature sea shanties.

The new full-time musician has already quit his job as a postman.

He misses running in the fresh air a bit, says Evans.

"I don't do any other sport - that was good."
