The centrist deputy Jean-Christophe Lagarde recommended Sunday to dedicate the first doses received in France of the AstraZeneca vaccine against the Covid-19 to the vaccination of students, in order to respond to the discomfort among young people.

"The first doses of AstraZeneca that we will receive should be devoted to our 2.8 million students, to vaccinate them and allow them to resume a normal life", declared the president of the UDI during the Radio J Forum.

A vaccine less effective in the less young

AstraZeneca / Oxford is, since Friday, the third serum to be endorsed in the EU after those of Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna.

However, its effectiveness is questioned by the German authorities for those over 65.

According to Jean-Christophe Lagarde, "in the race against the clock in question, I think we need to re-liberate young people (…) and open the door to universities for them".

Make youth "an absolute priority"

The Minister of National Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer, who fought to keep schools open, wished Thursday morning that young people become "the top priority".

"There are measures that are taken but we must go further and be extremely benevolent for this generation," he said on France 2.

The signals sent for a few weeks by the executive go in the direction of taking into account the distress of young people: according to an Ipsos poll published on Thursday, nearly a third of 18-25 year-olds evoke suicidal thoughts.
