48 hours after the provisional lifting of his suspension by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), Ahmad Ahmad indeed resumes his post as President of the African Football Confederation (CAF).

Constant Omari, who has acted in this position, recorded this decision this Sunday, January 31.

Two and a half months after being removed from his mandate as president by Fifa, Ahmad Ahmad is back.

The Madagascan leader had received a

first favorable opinion on Friday

,

January 29

, when the CAS had set up an " 

accelerated procedure

 " to look into the accusations to which he is the subject, and had temporarily suspended the sanctions taken by Fifa.

This Sunday, January 31, CAF formalizes what the decision of the CAS suggested: not only, Ahmad Ahmad can campaign for the next elections for the presidency of CAF, but in addition, the suspension of sanctions results in his return to the post of president of CAF.

Insisting well on the suspensive character of the decision of the CAS, the CAF establishes that, " 

consequently, he (Ahmad Ahmad) has regained his function

 ".

Constant Omari, who succeeded Ahmad Ahmad by interim, summoned the CAF Emergency Committee by videoconference this Sunday and " 

took note of the CAS decision

 ".

The press release added that the Malagasy politician " 

will seize the CAF Governance Commission on Monday

 " February 1, about his candidacy for

the March 12 elections for the presidency of CA

F.

 ”said Ahmad Ahmad, who had succeeded Issa Hayatou at the presidency of CAF in March 2017.

Ivorian Jacques Anouma, South African Patrice Motsepe, Senegalese Augustin Senghor and Mauritanian Ahmed Yahya are also in contention for the March 12 elections.

Elections in which Ahmad Ahmad, restored to his position as president, may be able to take part;

the CAS must examine his case on March 2 and rule before March 12.
