According to scientists, clinical vaccine studies in South Africa show that the virus variant found there reduces the effectiveness of the preparations.

The effectiveness of the two vaccines from Novavax and Johnson & Johnson, which published preliminary results, was examined.

The vaccines were therefore significantly less effective in subjects in South Africa, where the more contagious variant is widespread, than in countries in which the mutation was detected less frequently.

"The mutants clearly have a reducing effect on the effectiveness of the vaccine," says Anthony Fauci, director of the US Institute for Allergies and Infectious Diseases.
