An Iraqi officer steals one billion dinars' salaries and escapes to an unknown destination

An Iraqi security source stated that the accounts officer at the Basra Police Regiments Directorate stole the salaries of 700 affiliates, estimated at one billion Iraqi dinars, and fled to an unknown destination.

Today, Saturday, the Iraqi satellite channel, Dijlah, quoted the source as saying that the officer in charge of salaries paid small sums to some of its affiliates because the rest were busy securing the friendly Iraq-Kuwait match that was held last Wednesday.

He added that after the associates returned to their departments to receive their salaries, they were surprised at the disappearance of the salary officer, who was in possession of at least one billion Iraqi dinars.

The source revealed that the preliminary information indicates that it is possible that the officer managed to escape out of Iraq, while the information indicates that the rest of the salaries are in Iraq.
