Twenty years after

Requiem for a Dream

, Darren Aronofsky and Jared Leto will meet for a new project.

According to Deadline, the actor has signed on to join the cast of

Adrift

, a film set to be directed and co-written by the filmmaker.

It is the actor of

Suicide Squad

who "found" the project, according to the publication, and who tried to obtain the rights to a short story by Koji Suzuki (author of

The Ring

) for 10 years to make an adaptation.

No other details on the casting have yet been revealed, but Jared Leto wants to play the lead role in this thriller which is obviously very close to his heart.

Disturbing

Early plot information reveals that

Adrift

will take place on the high seas, where a fishing boat meets a drifting yacht, with a strange distress signal.

A member of the crew agrees to come aboard to tow it to port, but he will quickly understand why the other sailors say it is a “ghost ship”.

For the moment, the film obviously has no release date, having not yet been signed by any distributor.

Darren Aronoksy will also have to wait until the end of the shooting of

The Whale

, his next film, with Brendan Fraser, whose production starts next March.

Jared Leto, for his part, has a busy news since in addition to playing in the

Snyder's Cut

of

Justice League

(in the role of Joker, which he played in

Suicide Squad

), he will star in

Gucci

by Ridley Scott, and will be the poster for

Morbius

, the

Spider-Man

spin-off

, where he plays the title role.
