In view of the continuing shortage of vaccines against the coronavirus, Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) has again prepared the population for “hard weeks”.

Nevertheless, the vaccination campaign is "on the right track", stressed Spahn on Friday in Berlin.

He reiterated the goal that all residents of nursing homes should receive a vaccination offer by mid-February, and all over 80 year olds by the end of March.

Regarding the availability of vaccines in Germany, Spahn said on Friday morning that the government expects that a total of twelve million doses of Biontech and Moderna products will be delivered by the end of the first quarter.

In addition, Germany could expect around three million vaccine doses from Astrazeneca next month, the minister said.

He viewed the company's promise to deliver more vaccine doses to the EU than announced in the meantime as positive.
