[Live Voice] I only have 700,000 fans on Douyin, which is really ashamed.

Oh my goodness, this is not enough.

Just like this, it seems humble, but what they really mean is that I am proud of it.

[Commentary] In the camera, the old English man William talks freely and introduces the hot words of China's Internet in 2020 to the audience. He joked about the number of his fans and deduced what is called "Versailles".

[Explanation] On many video social media platforms in China, 78-year-old William is affectionately called "Grandpa William" by netizens. As an entrepreneur in the English education industry, he often posts some light-hearted but full of dry goods. The video of "has been loved by many Chinese netizens.

[Commentary] William introduced that he became attached to China more than 20 years ago.

After graduating from Cambridge University, he successively worked as a program producer and a freelance writer. Later, he was invited by relatives to engage in international sales of metal materials in Hong Kong.

William once visited Changsha, Hunan in 1997. Talking about his first impression of China, he laughed and said that the most memorable thing is the bicycles all over the street.

  [Concurrent] William

What impressed me was that there were many bicycles (on the streets of Changsha at the time).

In 2000, I came to Hong Kong and I stayed in Hong Kong for 10 years.

I noticed that not only from 1997, as China became more affluent, (people's means of transportation) changed from bicycles, bicycles, to electric bicycles, and then to cars.

In some of the more affluent places I have visited, such as somewhere in Qingdao, people often drive SUVs.

The development process in China is very fast, and the bicycle quickly disappeared.

[Explanation] Affected by the 2008 financial crisis, William's business in China was also affected. Because he had invested in education before, he began to switch to English education.

In 2015, William received an invitation from an English education institution in Weifang, Shandong, and has since settled here.

He said that it was a coincidence to come to Weifang, but he chose to settle here because he liked the job of education, and he gained friendship and support here.

  [Concurrent] William

I was treated very friendly here.

On the streets of China, ordinary people are also very friendly to me. When I walk in the park, some children will call me grandpa. I like it here.

[Explanation] The new crown epidemic in 2020 has greatly changed William's life, but he has also seen China's efforts in response to the epidemic.

With the advent of winter, the epidemic began to repeat in some areas, but William was confident in China's anti-epidemic measures.

  [Concurrent] William

Home isolation (nationwide in early 2020) is not so rigid.

If you are in contact with your friends, you can get living supplies through your mobile phone.

At that time, home isolation was about two weeks, which was not convenient when exercising.

I think there have been many heroic deeds in Wuhan, especially the medical staff and soldiers who came from all over China to support Wuhan.

For Wuhan, for the whole of China, these people risked their lives to provide assistance.

I think it's amazing.

This is an excellent example for other countries in the world who want to learn from China's anti-epidemic experience.

[Explanation] He has been engaged in international business for more than 30 years. During the interview, William also mentioned the international economic news he has been following recently.

Whether it is the completion of the China-EU Investment Agreement negotiations not long ago or the "Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement" signed earlier, in his view, China's performance in international trade is becoming more professional and open. He also looks forward to these cooperation meetings. Bringing more changes and economic opportunities, I will continue to work hard in English education to let more people understand the culture behind different languages.
