20 million years old .. a rare tree found in Greece

On the volcanic island of Lesbos, Greek scientists found a rare fossilized tree whose branches and roots are still intact after 20 million years.

The tree was found during roadworks near an ancient forest that was fossilized millions of years ago on an island in the eastern Mediterranean and was transported from the site using special machines.

This is the first time a tree has been found in good condition with branches and roots since excavations began in 1995, says Professor Nikos Zoros, of the Natural History Museum of the Petrified Forest on Lesbos.

The fossilized tree, which is about 19 meters long, was preserved with a thick layer of volcanic ash after its fall.

A large number of fruit tree leaves were found in the same place, in addition to the image with animal bones from the public area.
