Regarding volunteer probation officers who support the recovery of former prisoners, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' Administrative Evaluation Bureau has recommended improvement to the Ministry of Justice, saying that efforts to secure bearers, which are decreasing year by year, are insufficient.

Probation officers are part-time national civil servants who assist in recovery, such as probation of former prisoners who have left prison.

They are essentially volunteers, and the number of people who carry them is decreasing year by year, and the population is aging.

According to a survey conducted by the Administrative Evaluation Bureau of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, more than 80% of the facilities where volunteer probation officers interview former prisoners, etc., have interviews at night, such as during the daytime on weekdays. It turns out that there is not a small number of cases.

We are also encouraged to have multiple interviews with veterans to support inexperienced volunteer probation officers, but we also found that less than 20% of the volunteer probation officers surveyed.

Furthermore, when the volunteer probation officer retired, it was confirmed that the probation officer did not ask the local government to cooperate in finding a successor, but left it to the volunteer probation officer.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications has recommended improvements to the Ministry of Justice, saying that efforts to secure an environment to support the activities of volunteer probation officers and to find a replacement for retirees are insufficient.

The Ministry of Justice says, "We recognize this as an important issue and would like to take further steps."
