In the case of a fatal arson attack on a refugee home in Saarland, the Federal Prosecutor's Office has identified a suspected perpetrator after almost 30 years.

According to information from the AFP news agency on Thursday, it is a 49-year-old right-wing extremist from Saarlouis.

In the morning, the alleged perpetrator's home and workplace were searched, a spokesman for the federal prosecutor said.

First the "Spiegel" reported.

According to the Federal Prosecutor's office, searches were also carried out on four people who are said not to have been involved in the crime.

The suspect was not arrested because the conditions for an arrest warrant were not met.

The man is suspected of having carried out an arson attack on a refugee home in Saarlouis on September 19, 1991, in which the 27-year-old Samuel Yeboah from Ghana died and two people were injured.

At the time of the fire, there were 19 people in the building.

The investigations into unknown persons have meanwhile been discontinued.

New findings eventually led to the investigation being resumed, said a spokesman for the federal prosecutor's office.

The decisive factor were "serious indications" for a right-wing extremist crime that emerged "not so long ago".

The investigation continues.
