Last week, 11 cases of the British variant were detected in a Toulouse nursing home.

These cases are added to others in the Occitanie region.

After conducting analyzes on suspicious PCR tests, the Regional Health Agency indicated that there were now 42 cases linked to a variant of the Covid-19 virus.

Mainly in Haute-Garonne, where 35 cases linked to the British variant have been confirmed as well as two cases linked to the South African variant.

The other cases of the British variant are located for four of them in Hérault and one in Aveyron.

These variants, more contagious according to Olivier Véran, are now circulating more actively in France.

In Occitania, sequencing is carried out by a laboratory network, coordinated by the Toulouse and Montpellier CHUs.

It will be reinforced by non-hospital laboratories such as the Toulouse Veterinary School, the GenoToul laboratory and Aveyron Labo.

“As soon as suspected cases are reported, contact-tracing operations are carried out closely by the teams from Health Insurance, ARS Occitanie and Public Health France.

The objective of these interventions is to quickly isolate the people concerned, to identify and screen as quickly as possible all potential contact cases in the entourage of these people, ”indicates the Regional Health Agency.

For cases of Covid-19 already identified, varying or not, home visits take place if necessary.

There have been more than 600 visits to Occitania in recent days.
