The history series "Bridgerton" broke a Netflix record in its first few weeks.

Within 28 days, 82 million households worldwide streamed the series by producer Shonda Rimes ("Grey's Anatomy"), as the streaming service announced on Wednesday (local time).

In addition to Japan, the show also made it into the top 10 worldwide - in 83 countries it even made it to first place, it was said.

The novels of the same name by the author Julia Quinn have also become New York Times bestsellers.

The series revolves around the life and dance balls of London's high society in the early 19th century.

The beautiful Daphne, eldest daughter of the Bridgerton family, is entering the marriage market for the first time, but is not very enthusiastic about the candidates.

Together with Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings, who actually does not want to marry, she decides to fake a romance.

But feelings develop between the two.

Last week, Netflix announced a second season.

Thanks to “Bridgerton” and other series hits such as “The Queen's Gambit” and “The Crown”, the online video service had grown strongly at the end of the year despite intensified competition.

In the three months to the end of December, the number of paying subscribers rose by 8.5 million to just under 204 million.
