Matt Furie designed the frog Pepe's funeral, but the figure still continued to be used on the internet by, among others, right-wing extremists.

The American Anti-Defamation League, which opposes anti-Semitism, includes the frog Pepe on its list of hate symbols.

They state on their website that the symbol

can

be used for racist and anti-Semitic purposes, but not always.

- Media and politics are topics that I as an artist have always wanted to avoid.

I shit in that sort of thing, but I was drawn into it because I appear in a register of hate symbols.

It pissed me off, says Matt Furie in the documentary.

"Lifelong journey"

Now Matt Furie is instead pursuing the issue legally, and his goal is for the frog Pepe to eventually be removed from the list.

- This will be a lifelong journey for me.

Because I'll be connected to this character forever.
