  • The Ikos project has just obtained an agreement to set up on a site in Bordeaux-Nord for 2023.

  • In the meantime, an ephemeral store offering recycled clothes, books and furniture has been set up until April in the Auchan-Lac shopping mall.

  • The public is there, and Ikos hopes to be able to follow up with another pop-up store soon.

It is a UFO, posed in the heart of the immense shopping mall of Auchan-Lac, in Bordeaux.

Opened on November 28, the ephemeral Ikos store offers until April, recycled or second-hand products, and foreshadows what will be the future Ikos village of Bordeaux, which should open in 2023 not far away, in next to the Bordeaux-Nord road center.

Today, on 350 m2, Ikos brings together the Ding Fring boutique of Relais Gironde, the Green Book, and the Eco Solidaire Workshop, which manufactures furniture based on old furniture.

Airy space, neat presentation, cleaned products ... In terms of layout, the Auchan-Lac store has nothing to envy to the Zara or other IKKS stores located next door.

"We are far from the dusty world of bazaar and bric-a-brac", confirms Marion Besse, the project manager.

"You can find high-end products here at a good price"

“Overall, customers are surprised by the quality of our products,” confirms Frédéric Guerin, one of the Green Book managers.

Basically, it's a donation, but there is a lot of work done upstream and what we market has been sorted with great care beforehand.

In books, for example, we offer copies of La Pléiade.

I remember that at Christmas, a customer bought us a beautiful book… and then slipped it into a Fnac gift bag.

That says it all, right?

“We have customers who are looking to dress inexpensively, and others who have taken the reflex to no longer buy new, analysis for her side Amélie Berdoues, manager of Relais Gironde in the Ikos store.

Others still come because they know that they can find high-end products here at good prices, like Maje and Christian Dior.

And we made the choice to put vintage forward in the store, because we know that it is something that is developing.

"A saleswoman tells us that she does not hesitate to go canvassing even in the shopping arcade, the young customers hesitant, assuring them that Ikos," it's like Vinted "...

"I like knowing that a garment can have a story"

Nathalie Guillier, she does not need to be convinced.

A true aficionada of vintage, this Bordeaux woman discovered Ikos a little by chance.

But Wednesday is already the fifth time that she has returned.

“I was right next door, I said to myself that I could not not push this far, she laughs.

I buy and sell a lot of clothes on second-hand sites on the Internet, I was also already a customer of the Green Book, but I did not know Ikos.

And I really became a fan, because when it comes to clothes, you never find the same thing twice, and I like to know that a dress can have a story, and that it will continue to have one… I love them furniture too, they are beautiful!

Sophie also entered by chance.

After strolling through the shelves, she leaves with a book.

"If ever we are confined again ...", she anticipates.

Reaching a new audience, unaccustomed to the world of second-hand products, is one of the store's objectives.

"And also to make people discover the Ikos project", continues Amélie Berdoues.

"A shopping arcade to fully equip yourself with products from reuse"

A project which took an important step a few days ago.

An agreement on land has been found between the city of Bordeaux, Bordeaux metropolis, and the promoters of the reuse village project.

“The land will be in the Dangeard district of Bordeaux Nord, next to the road center,” explains Marion Besse.

A technical meeting with Bordeaux Métropole will take place on February 5 to refine the project, but we are starting on an area of 2.5 hectares.

The idea is to create "an immersion" in the world of reuse.

“We will find both collection and sorting activities, and a shopping arcade of around 1,000 m2 to be fully equipped with products from reuse.

"

The project will bring together nine players from the world of recycling, Le Relais Gironde (clothing), the Green Book, the Eco Solidaire Workshop (furniture), the companions builders Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the Hercule association (personal services ), Envie Gironde (household appliances), the sports recycling center, the North-South Exchange association (food, preserves and jam) and Eco Agir (toys).

“So we have almost everything that is in a house, continues Marion Besse.

The village will also host a place of animation and awareness raising on the theme of reuse, with events such as repair and upcycling workshops.

Finally, there will be R&D activities on reuse and repair, through the hosting of students.

"

An envelope around 11 million euros

The next step will be the technical feasibility study, which will allow the release of a first financial envelope.

“For the moment, we have estimated an envelope around 11 million euros, which will be financed by the private and the public.

Bordeaux metropolis and the region will take a share, Ademe also, and I think that we will launch a participatory fundraising.

If all goes well, we can hope to open the site in spring 2023. "

Ikos has the ambition with this project to trigger a "real change in behavior, in relation to the use we make of objects.

And Marion Besse hopes to be able to offer another ephemeral store, to make the transition between that of Auchan-Lac, which will close in April, and the opening of the village.
