A doctor has been arrested in northern Italy and placed under house arrest for allegedly killing two corona patients.

The public prosecutor's office accuses the man of deliberately administering a muscle blocker to the sick in March, during the first Corona wave in Italy, which led to the death of the two, the police said.

As the newspaper "Corriere della Serra" reports, Carlo M. is accused of having created free beds for other patients in this way.

The news agency Ansa suggests a similar tenor: The medical doctor wanted to create capacities among stressed hospital staff.

The doctor worked in a hospital near the city of Brescia.

The village is located in the Lombardy region, which was hard hit by Corona at the time.

Suspicions were confirmed after exhumations

According to the investigators, a few weeks later they received the information that the death of the two patients (61 and 80 years old) had been brought about.

As a result, experts exhumed the bodies of the deceased in order to examine them, and proved the anesthetic.

As a rule, it is used to intubate or sedate people and can lead to death if incorrectly dosed.

On Monday the police put M. under house arrest, on Friday he should be interrogated, according to Ansa.

In the “Corrie della Serra”, colleagues from the doctor who defend him also have their say.

In general, the situation in the hospitals in Lombardy was dramatic at the time.

More and more new patients with sometimes severe symptoms poured into the clinics.

"We are sure that he administered the medication to patients who would not have lived more than an hour anyway," the newspaper quoted a doctor from the hospital as saying.

“He worked like a madman.

Why would he have wanted to kill someone? "

In Italy, more than 86,000 people have died with Sars-CoV-2 since the pandemic began.

The authorities have so far registered more than 2.485 million corona infections.

Around 10,600 new infections and around 540 corona deaths were recorded on Tuesday.
