Microsoft founder Bill Gates has warned against vaccination nationalism and carelessness in dealing with the corona pandemic.

The US billionaire told the "Süddeutsche Zeitung" that it is not about contracts, but about the fast delivery of particularly vulnerable population groups with vaccines all over the world.

Gates emphasized that the quality of the corona vaccine was most important, because otherwise it would be rejected.

The entrepreneur spoke out in favor of intensive cooperation between the countries of the world.

No country can stand alone in fighting the pandemic, said Gates, whose foundation has provided more than 1.7 billion euros for the development and production of simple vaccines.

The poor countries in particular would benefit from the advances in vaccine development.

"It's a miracle: if the pandemic had broken out five years ago, the world would not have had a vaccine in that short time," said Gates.

In his opinion, pandemics are part of the new normal “in the same way as the earth shakes, tornadoes come or the climate changes”.

Comprehensive preparations with better diagnoses are necessary.

“We have to learn the lessons,” Gates emphasized, “we are not prepared for the next pandemic”.

A future pandemic could be ten times as bad.

In the Corona crisis, people's patience is definitely being strained, admitted Gates.

It would “in the best case scenario, take almost the whole year” to get life going again.

Right now people were "going through a really tough phase".

The fatigue due to the economic restrictions is "gigantic".
