More than 50 women can share in just over 17 million dollars, or 140 million kronor, which comes from the liquidation of the former film mogul company Weinstein Co, which went bankrupt in 2018. In the same year, the company's assets were sold to the film company Lantern Entertainment for the equivalent of 2.4 billion, according to the BBC.

The deal comes after a federal judge this summer rejected another proposal for a settlement with a larger payout.

Harvey Weinstein was sentenced in New York last year to 23 years in prison for rape and sexual abuse of two women.

He is on trial for another six cases of sexual assault in Los Angeles.
