[Explanation] The "Statistical Report on China's Internet Development Status" shows that as of March 2020, the number of Chinese Internet users has reached 904 million, and the Internet penetration rate has reached 64.5%.

People's life services are getting closer and closer to the Internet.

Young people can easily realize services such as paying bills, taxiing, shopping, and ordering meals through mobile phones, but due to various reasons, it is difficult for the elderly to enjoy this digital dividend.

How to use digital means to serve the elderly well and enable them to bridge the digital divide is a topic facing the entire society.

[Explanation] On January 23, Urumqi, Xinjiang ushered in a rare heavy snowfall.

A 67-year-old citizen, Nusleti Abdu, suffered from high blood pressure. She felt a little dizzy that day. Due to the inconvenience of traveling, she turned on the TV and chose the video consultation service.

  [Concurrent]

Medical staff: Hello, is there any discomfort?

Citizen: I am a resident of this imperial city community and I am a little dizzy now.

I originally had the high blood pressure and I had taken the medicine.

Medical staff: What kind of medicine do you take for high blood pressure?

  Citizen: Luohuoxi.

Medical staff: This is the only type of Luohuoxi, right?

[Explanation] This service is realized by the hospitals in the jurisdiction of Dynasty Community, with the help of China Telecom's smart community platform.

The platform also has a number of convenient services such as taxi rides, food ordering, and living payment. The elderly can operate on the TV by themselves as long as they use the remote control.

TV, that’s rest assured, the remote control can be big words, don’t be afraid (to be cheated), it won’t do us anything.

TV is more convenient than mobile phones.

A lot of things are on the TV, such as any announcements in the community, such as vaccinating dolls, these are all on the TV.

[Explanation] The TV screen is larger than a mobile phone, and the remote control is easy to operate, so don’t worry about charging fees... These are the reasons why the elderly are willing to accept TV smart community services.

[Concurrent] Yilixiati, Director of Huangcheng Community, Urumqi, Xinjiang

There are more than 800 elderly people in our community (over 60 years old), accounting for 20% of the total population of the community.

The elderly at home are mainly television, so we cooperate with telecommunications to build some platforms (bringing to the elderly) that are convenient in life to better serve the elderly in our jurisdiction.

[Explanation] The person in charge of the Urumqi Telecom Company in Xinjiang told reporters that the smart community platform is of a public welfare nature.

At present, the platform has been opened to more than 1,000 communities in Urumqi for free, covering about 60% of households in the city.

[Concurrent] Li Geng, Secretary of the Party Committee and General Manager of China Telecom Co., Ltd. Urumqi Branch

We hope that through this free and credible platform, we can drive all aspects of society to pay attention to the elderly and bridge the digital divide.

[Explanation] The "China Development Report 2020: Development Trends and Policies of China's Population Aging" released by the China Development Foundation predicts that China will enter an aging society from an aging society around 2022, when the population of 65 and over will It accounts for more than 14% of the total population.

Under the wave of digital development, functional units such as hospitals, banks, and communication business halls insist on retaining manual windows to meet the needs of offline services for the elderly, and actively develop "aging" digital products to lower the threshold for the elderly to "connect to the Internet" These are all extremely useful explorations and attempts, and I hope that these efforts will make the elderly less worried and more relaxed in the digital age.
