The Greens are again accusing Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) of insufficiently involving the Bundestag in combating the corona pandemic.

"It is outrageous that the Chancellor is not available to answer questions in plenary this week," said Green Party leader Anton Hofreiter of the German press agency.

"This continues the government's disregard for parliament in the fight against the corona crisis."

The Greens had unsuccessfully demanded that Merkel submit a government statement in the Bundestag one week after the extension and tightening of the corona lockdown.

The Chancellor last explained her course in the fight against Corona in a government survey on December 16.

She made the last government statement on this with subsequent debate on November 26th.

Hofreiter also criticized the fact that the Bundestag could neither decide on the priorities for vaccinations nor on a step-by-step plan to combat the pandemic.

"As important as the work and cooperation of the executive is in a crisis situation, the central debates and decisions belong in parliament."
