The number of daily deaths and new infections with the coronavirus in the USA is declining slightly.

The top state infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci suspects a natural fluctuation behind the decline.

It is more a natural decline after an increased infection rate as a result of the holiday season - than the effects of the vaccination campaign started in December in the USA, said Fauci.

The number of daily deaths related to the pandemic had recently leveled off at an average of 3,100 per day.

Less than two weeks ago this value was 3350.

The number of new infections is currently an average of 170,000 per day - on January 11, it was almost 250,000.

According to official figures, 21.8 million vaccine doses had been administered across the country by Sunday.

Around 3.2 million people have already received the necessary two doses of vaccine, a little less than one percent of the population.

More than 420,000 people have died in the United States since the pandemic began in connection with the coronavirus.
