Recently, an infrared camera installed in the Kaluben National Wetland Park in the Greater Khingan Mountains, Inner Mongolia, captured images of otters appearing on the ice-free river.

The Karuben National Wetland Park monitors said that it is rare to see such a clear picture during the day.

In the video, the otter sometimes swims into the ice-free river for food; sometimes it rolls on the ice to clean up the water droplets on its body, and from time to time vigilantly looks around for safety and continues to groom its fur; sometimes ran to the shore to look for hay... The weather has been extremely cold recently. This otter looks for hay to build a nest and make an unusual behavior to thicken the sleeping couch.

After years of continuous monitoring and research on the living habits of the otters in Karuben National Wetland Park, the monitoring staff found that the otters would look for food-rich waters to build temporary nests in winter, so that they could rest in the cave during the day and find food at night.

Otters are China's national second-class protected animals and were included in the Red List of Endangered Species by the World Conservation Union in 2015.
