The eastern Indian state of Manipur plans to develop a site for "war tourism" in the state, by maintaining the historic "Quirinji" airport in its capital, Imphal.

The Indian newspaper "Times of India" stated that the state government is seeking to acquire the old airport from the Ministry of Defense, in order to implement its plan for war tourism.

The newspaper quoted the Chief Minister of Manipur, N.

Beren Singh, to say that the state government plans to transfer the Indian Army units currently deployed at Quirinji Airport to another location, which will pave the way for developing a site for war tourism there.

It is noteworthy that Manipur played a major role during World War II, and the Imphal War Cemetery is already one of the most important war tourism sites in the country.
