A specialist in Shiism and post-revolutionary Iran at Sciences Po Paris, Fariba Adelkhah was arrested on June 5, 2019 in Tehran.

She was sentenced in May 2020 to five years in prison for "collusion with a view to endangering national security" and "propaganda against the political system" of the Islamic Republic.

A house arrest

The researcher left Evin prison on October 3, 2019 and was placed under house arrest in Tehran, with a ban on moving "beyond a perimeter of 300 meters around her home", according to her support committee.

It is also "prohibited from any public speaking, not even being able to thank" all its support in France and in the scientific community, he adds.

His companion Roland Marchal, a renowned specialist in Africa also arrested in June 2019 when he had come to visit him, was released in March 2020 as part of a prisoner exchange.

The committee reiterated its demand for the "immediate and unconditional release" of Fariba Adelkhah and its support for other "scientific prisoners, notably Ahmedreza Djallali, an Iranian-Swedish university doctor sentenced to death in Iran and Patrick Zaki, a doctoral student at the university. of Bologna, imprisoned since February 2020 in Egypt ". 

He also cited the case of Osman Kavala, born in France and a respected figure of civil society in Turkey detained since October 2017 in this country, whose acquittal was declared invalid on Friday after his conviction for supporting protests in 2013. .
