"This was a totally unacceptable violation of the law," said the police chief.

Since January 4, the English have been confined and can only go out to do their shopping, to go to a medical appointment or to work.

Hospitals in the city of London are also under pressure.

This is a most shameful desecration of all that we hold dear.

At a time when we are all making such great sacrifices, it amounts to a brazen abrogation of the responsibility to protect life & such illegal behavior is abhorred by the overwhelming majority of the Jewish community.

Fines of 200 to 10,000 pounds

The police had originally reported the presence of 400 people before revising this figure down.

Marcus Barnett added that many people are making sacrifices by canceling various celebrations.

Weddings are allowed as long as the rule of six people is respected.

This type of behavior is inexcusable, he ruled, adding that officers could take further action if necessary.

The organizers risk up to 10,000 pounds in fines (around 11,200 euros).

Five guests have already had to pay 200 pounds (around 224 euros).

Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis also condemned the facts on Twitter, assuring that the vast majority of the Jewish community was outraged by such behavior.

On the side of the school where the wedding took place, management said they had not been made aware of the event.

But the mayor of Hackney, the district concerned, stressed that the establishment had already been the subject of a sanction for non-compliance with measures living to fight against the spread of the virus.

He said that a discussion would take place in the coming days with the rabbinate to find solutions to prevent such situations from happening again.
