It is a cluster, which is more of the English variant of the coronavirus.

The regional health agency of Occitanie (Arsoc) announced this Sunday that eleven cases of the British variant of the virus were detected in the Ehpad Saint-Exupéry, located in the Montaudran district, in Toulouse.

They concern three members of staff and eight residents, including an “elderly recently deceased” resident.

These cases were detected thanks to a "systematic screening campaign" triggered following a first confirmed case of Covid-19 in the establishment on January 4.

40 positive residents

"This establishment currently has 40 residents and 19 staff tested positive for Covid-19 or this English variant", specifies the ARS.

Four elderly people are currently hospitalized.

At this stage, the reinforced accommodation unit of the retirement home - the one which accommodates the most dependent residents, in particular suffering from Alzheimer's - is not affected by the contamination.

The Health Insurance and ARS teams are currently carrying out the “usual operations” to search for potential contact cases.

With these 11 new Toulouse cases, Occitania now has 21 cases of the English variant.
