In "In stroll with" Sunday on Europe 1, the novelist and playwright David Foenkinos spoke about the restrictive measures which upset the performances of his play "Ten years after" at the Paris theater.

"Roselyne Bachelot can not do much" to accelerate a restart of culture, he believes.

INTERVIEW

En balade with

broadcast on Sunday on Europe 1. Here, the poster for

Ten years after

, the play written by David Foenkinos, directed by Nicolas Briançon and performed by Bruno Solo, Mélanie Page and Julien Boisselier, already seems vintage.

The performances had started a year ago, before being brutally interrupted by the Covid-19 crisis.

"It was magical to experience the start of the piece", says its author after ten years of work on this work.

"We can't put him on trial with empathy"

After two months of performances, the implementation of restrictive measures, however, broke the magic.

David Foenkinos speaks of a "painful" year 2020, but he says not to blame the Minister of Culture Roselyne Bachelot.

"She can't do much, we can't put her on trial with empathy. I think she's sincere in her commitment, her suffering, her connection with artists. After that, she can't do much. , it seems obvious to me, "he said.

"We find it absurd that theaters and cinemas are closed when we see businesses, planes, trains, schools ... Especially since in theaters, people do not talk to each other, are disciplined."

Despite the closure of the Paris theater, David Foenkinos considers that he is not "the most to be pitied": "As an author, I have my novels."

On the other hand, he recounts a "terrible" year for "all the actors, technicians and personnel of the theater".

"There are intimate tragedies, sufferings, difficulties which are also extremely powerful" for many cultural professionals, he insists.

"We need to have hope."
