A painting of the painter Pierre Solaj, owned by the poet and former Senegalese president, Leybold Cedar Senghor, was sold at a price of nearly 1.5 million euros, the day before yesterday, in Cannes, in western France, according to the auction organizers.

"This oil painting on canvas, with a yellow background close to golden, was sold at auction at a price of 1.21 million euros (1.48 million euros with expenses)," said Can Auction House.

The house indicated that the painting was sold to a European who participated in the auction by phone, without giving further details.

Seven bidders participated in the auction, including six by phone, without any museum being among them.

She drew house Kan Auctions that «the price is very good for a painting of this format».

The work, for which the auctions started at 600,000 euros, was estimated at a price ranging between 800,000 and one million euros.

Solage presented the painting, entitled "Painting 81 x 60 cm, December 3, 1956" to his friend Senghor shortly after its completion.

The painting was located in the home of the Senegalese president and his wife in Verson, near Cannes, where the couple had lived since the 1980s.

The former Senegalese president was a big fan of the 101-year-old painter.

Segur wrote in 1958: “The first time I saw a painting by Solage was astonished.

As if I received a blow to my stomach that knocked me down, as a boxer falls with a knockout. ”
