Kati Pein simply enjoyed and loved her daughter - until suddenly after the birth a team of paediatricians was in the delivery room.

One of them said that the eyes looked "weird".

The word Down syndrome was mentioned.

A few years later, Kati Pein was pregnant again. The prenatal diagnostician called in the 16th week when Pein was having lunch with some colleagues in the canteen. Her baby has trisomy 21, the doctor told her. Kati Pein breathed a sigh of relief. “I was hoping for that,” she says today.
