Nine deaths of elderly people who had received the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine against Covid-19 have been recorded in France, without a link being established between their death and the vaccination, the Medicines Agency said on Friday, according to whom they were ill and under heavy treatment.
"In view of the information available to us to date, there is nothing to conclude that these deaths are linked to vaccination", underlined the ANSM in its weekly update on vaccine surveillance.
These nine deaths concern "elderly people residing in EHPAD or in old age residences".
They are part of the "31 cases of serious adverse effects" which have been identified in people who have been vaccinated with the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine, the first to have been available in France (the first injections took place on December 27).
Among these cases, there are "four cases of tachycardia episodes" (acceleration of the heartbeat).
“A potential signal concerning a risk of tachycardia is identified.
This signal is currently under investigation, ”says ANSM.
No problem so far with the Moderna
A total of 135 cases of adverse effects were identified.
"The majority of the effects correspond to expected or non-serious adverse effects", in particular "fever, headaches and nausea", continues the ANSM.
In addition, we observed at this stage "no case of adverse effect with the Moderna vaccine", the second vaccine made available in France, the first deliveries of which took place on January 11.
According to the latest figures from the Ministry of Health, published Thursday evening, more than 823,000 people have so far received a vaccine against Covid-19 in France.
