Amid growing concern about the coronavirus crisis, in particular the more contagious variants of the virus, the European Commission proposed to Heads of State and Government, during a European Council organized by videoconference on Thursday, to identify as "dark red" the most important epidemic foci, from which all non-essential travel should be discouraged.

Travelers from these regions will be required to undergo screening tests before departure and quarantine upon arrival.
