[Explanation] Mentioning the bronze man of acupuncture and moxibustion, people who understand the culture of Chinese medicine will naturally think of the "Tiansheng Bronze Man" cast by Wang Yi, the medical officer of the Hanlin Medical College by Zhao Zhenzhao of Song Renzong 1000 years ago. It is the earliest acupuncture in Chinese history. Copper man.

Yu Qiuliang, chairman of the Hong Kong Museum of Medicine Foundation, sighed in an exclusive interview with a reporter from China News Agency that "the real and accurate version of the bronze man in acupuncture is hard to find in reality."

[Concurrent] Yu Qiuliang, Chairman of the Hong Kong Museum of Medicine Foundation

Acupuncture and moxibustion in China is a broad and profound academic. We often hope to let people know how to do acupuncture, but because there are too many things to make people go (understand), (so) I have always been hoping to think of a way, the best You can see the so-called bronze men in acupuncture.

[Commentary] Yu Qiuliang jokingly calls himself a "dreamer", and a "dreamer" is needed to realize this dream.

By chance, he met Dr. Tang Jiaxin, a medical physicist at Hong Kong Eastern Hospital who had improved the stereoscopic vision system of a minimally invasive surgery robot in 2013.

Before an Air Force pilot wants to learn to fly an airplane, he must pass through a simulated airplane, first go to practice and then do it.

As for doctors, whether it is Western medicine or Chinese medicine, many Western medicine practitioners also look for a model to practice.

So I thought of using virtual reality to do it.

We first made a model. This model was made using stereo scanning and computer tomography. The image fidelity is very high, just like the model you (now) see.

After having this computer model, we will use 3D printing, the effect of 3D printing is exactly the same as this model.

Therefore, we can use a technology, which is augmented reality.

As long as the (instrument) is aimed at that model, the computer can know which part of the model is.

[Explanation] After the three-dimensional model was printed, Yu Qiuliang and other Chinese physicians drew seven times in three-dimensional space and three-dimensional space before drawing the accurate positions of traditional meridians and acupuncture points.

Tang Jiaxin said that the three-dimensional model provided them with a practical basis, but when the real-life version of the bronze figure was printed, technical problems followed one after another.

After fixing the position, we printed out the model.

Because the traditional copper people 1,000 years ago were made of copper, we also want to make it today. We know the printing of metals, but we don’t have that much money. The printer alone costs more than 10 million.

When we printed a bronze figure over six feet tall, we did it with an ordinary printer.

We asked many printer factories to help, but they couldn't solve our problems. We solved these technical problems step by step.

After printing for four months, it would take four months for printing alone, or 24 hours (uninterrupted) printing, and finally the six-foot-tall bronze figure was printed.

[Explanation] Tang Jiaxin said that after the 3D bronze figure was printed, he used AR software to make acupuncture points, equipped with a positioning system and infrared transmitter, and used the tracking system to verify the accuracy of the acupuncture points.

In addition, Tang Jiaxin also stated that the successful development of the 3D Bronze Man not only promotes the field of Chinese medicine to scientific research, but also has educational significance.

We will put many cases up to let more people know that acupuncture and acupuncture points are related to certain diseases.

First, we can educate the public.

Second, we will discuss with three universities whether it can be included in the curriculum.

[Explanation] Hong Kong Island East Hospital Network Director Lu Zhicong used "very excited" to express his recognition and affirmation of the 3D bronze man research results.

[Concurrent] Lu Zhicong, Director of Hong Kong Island East Hospital Network

I am very excited, because the development of Chinese medicine and Chinese medicine in Hong Kong is actually slow compared to western medicine.

I believe that the development of the next generation of medical services and the training of some medical staff will have a positive or even a breakthrough effect on the results and practices of this research.
