Vaccinations were carried out to protect the cormorants of the traditional sweetfish fishing "Ose Ukai" in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture, from infectious diseases.

Oze Ukai, which is held on the Nagara River in Seki City, is a sweetfish fishing with a history of more than 1,300 years and is known as a summer tradition in Gifu Prefecture.

On the 21st, a veterinarian visited the homes of three cormorants and vaccinated the cormorants.

Of these, 12 were vaccinated at Yoichiro Adachi's house, and when Adachi rubbed the cormorant's neck and made him calm, the veterinarian injected one after another around his chest.

Due to the influence of the new corovirus, Seki Yusen opened about 20 days later than usual last year and took measures against infection such as spacing between customers, so the number of viewers has decreased by about 70% compared to the adult. It means that it stayed at about 2,200 people.

Mr. Adachi said, "It's difficult with the new coronavirus, but I want the cormorants to eat a lot of food and exercise so that they can have good cormorant fishing."

Seki Yusen is scheduled to start on May 11th.
