Thirteen additional agents will join the ranks of the police in Nîmes (Gard), said Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of the Interior, on Twitter on Wednesday.

Ten of them are expected on April 1, the other three on September 1.

In addition, as part of the recovery plan, "in order to modernize the equipment" of the police, 25 new vehicles were ordered by the Nîmes police station, indicates Françoise Dumas (LREM), member of the Gard.

"A spiral of criminal acts"

For several months, local elected officials have asked the Ministry of the Interior to strengthen the staff of the national police in Nîmes, after, in particular, serial shootings in certain areas of the city.

"Nîmes has been part of a spiral of increasingly violent criminal acts in recent years," the town scolded on September 22, calling for more police officers.

Insecurity in neighborhoods is on the rise and all public sector personnel face increasingly difficult situations on a daily basis.
