On your marks… Wednesday will be the first day of the launch of registrations on the Parcoursup platform, and high school or reorientation students will be able to start entering their orientation wishes there until midnight March 11.

Jérôme Teillard, Parcoursup project manager at the Ministry of Higher Education, explains to

20 Minutes

the new features of this fourth edition of Parcoursup and the consequences of the health situation on its functioning.

What new courses will integrate the platform this year?

We have greatly increased the number of training available.

They will be 17,800 this year, including 5,000 offered through apprenticeship.

New courses are making their debut: a joint competition between national schools of post-baccalaureate veterinarians, university bachelors of technology (BUT), which replace the DUT.

But also preparatory courses for teaching in schools (PPPE), set up in 23 academies on an experimental basis, which are general licenses associated with high school teaching and intended for future teachers.

There will also be new

preparatory classes for the grandes écoles (CPGE): the MP2I (for mathematics, physics-chemistry, computer science and engineering) and the ECG (economic and commercial general route), which will replace the old economic and commercial prepa classes.

And Sciences Po Paris, which canceled its entrance exam, joined Parcoursup.

From this year, the marks of the terminal specialties will be taken into account in the study of the candidate's file.

Will they be decisive?

These marks count for 32% in his evaluation for the bac.

They are interesting to take into account, since they will reflect the student's investment in 1re and Terminale.

It is not impossible that the two specialty tests scheduled for March will be postponed or canceled depending on the evolution of the health crisis.

What will happen in this case?

For now, they are still scheduled between March 15 and 17.

But if that changes, students will be notified of how they will be assessed.

Regarding the selective training courses on Parcoursup, they will give maximum visibility to candidates: if, for example, an oral initially planned in person is replaced by a videoconference interview due to the health situation, this will be indicated in black and white on the platform. .

If ever the baccalaureate exams are canceled like last year, the exam success rate may be exceptional, like 2020. Will there be enough places in higher education for welcome all new graduates?

Yes, because it is planned to create 20,000 additional places in 2021 in sectors that are in great demand by students.

In recent years, apprenticeship training has for example aroused a strong enthusiasm: suddenly, we are going from 4,200 apprenticeship training courses in 2020 to nearly 5,000 in 2021.

Ditto for the IFSI (nursing training institutes), which are very popular.

In 2019, 103,000 candidates applied for this training for 25,000 places We have set ourselves the objective in partnership with the regions of creating 6,000 more places in two years.

In an Ipsos * survey published in September, 22% of new baccalaureate graduates declared that they were not satisfied with the training they obtained through Parcoursup.

How to improve the situation?

By developing support for candidates, so that they know better the courses that may suit them and the expectations they require.

Due to the health crisis, we have developed virtual guidance fairs and establishments organize online open days.

And this year, we are launching an Instagram account to meet the candidates.

Let us also remember the existence of tutorial videos, a toll-free number, orientation chats, the possibility of reaching our experts by email ...

What training will be the most requested in 2021, according to your forecasts?

I think that the joint competition of national schools of post-baccalaureate veterinarians will be a great success, because the fact of not going through a preparatory class will remove the apprehensions of certain candidates who did not dare to try their luck.

Medical training will also continue to generate strong enthusiasm: the specific health access path (PASS) and licenses with health access option (LAS).

Just like paramedical training and GOALS.

Law, psychology, Staps and economics licenses will also be in high demand.

Is the mobility of students from one academy to another likely to be less strong because of the health crisis?

Mobility assistance benefited 10,000 students in 2019 and 20,000 in 2020. But this year, the economic difficulties encountered by parents may slow down the mobility of their children.

Some students in reorientation felt they were worse off on Parcoursup than the new baccalaureate graduates last year.

Is that the case ?

No, they do not come after the new baccalaureate graduates.

Moreover, 81% of reorientation students received an enrollment proposal at the end of the procedure.

Looking back three years, do we know if Parcoursup has contributed to reducing the license failure rate?

Yes.

In 2018-2019, the transition rate to the second year of the license was 45.4%.

After a few years of stability, around 40%, this rate increased by 4.4 points between 2016 and 2018. But it is feared that the health crisis could have an impact on this good momentum.
