Since January 1 and the UK's official exit from Europe, citizens have had to say goodbye to the principle of free movement.

A major problem for the world of culture, whose profession depends in part on tours.

The government of Boris Johnson and the European negotiator Michel Barnier have not reached any agreement on this subject, despite repeated requests and concerns from the main stakeholders.

After a petition to be presented to Westminster, it is a letter that 110 British personalities have sent to Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his government.

Ed Sheeran, Sting, Elton John, Liam Gallagher or even Radiohead and Roger Daltrey have highlighted the “additional costs” caused by the end of free movement within the framework of their profession.

If these artists fill stadiums easily enough, they speak above all on behalf of “young emerging musicians” for whom “going on tour will not be viable”.

They therefore ask to be able to “travel without an administrative form in Europe, for British artists and their equipment”.

Abandoned

“British musicians, dancers, actors and their teams have been shamefully abandoned by their government.

The agreement with Europe has a yawning void where the promise of free movement for musicians should lie, ”reads the letter published by The

Times

.

Boris Johnson's government responded by asking them "to go and see in Europe why they rejected the British offer", as the BBC relays.

British Culture Minister Caroline Dinenage had previously said that the offer made by Europe was "totally incompatible with the UK's commitment to regain control of its borders".

British artists, on the other hand, think of their European colleagues who wish to come to the United Kingdom, and of the public.

"For British fans who want to see European artists in the UK and British venues that want to host them, the agreement must be reciprocal," they also claim in their open letter.
