Maybe not, but the fact remains that sales of The Gentleman Burglar books were boosted by the Netflix series.
Like the craze for online chess after
Le Jeu de la Dame
or the registrations in volleyball clubs at the time of
Jeanne and Serge
(the real ones… the old people know).
“I don't know if we can talk about a sales boom, but there were clearly more requests,” comments Jérôme, bookseller at La Malle aux Histoires in Pantin, in Seine-Saint-Denis.
He even admits not having fully anticipated the success of the series and therefore of the books.

, like Omar Sy's totem book in the series, continues the bookseller.
But this is not necessarily a specific request.
People want "Arsène Lupine".
People, and often indeed parents, whose children have seen and liked the series, and want to immerse themselves in the books.

“This week, I have three 6th grade students who came to college with Maurice Leblanc's books, one of them testified on Twitter.
They devour them, advise each other, discuss them.

Ten days after the series went online, the special reissue, a collection of nine short stories including
The Queen's Necklace
, is still in the top 5 best sellers on Amazon and Fnac sites.

A success, then, but not a total surprise either.
Three reprints in progress
Indeed, Hachette, historical publisher of the work Maurice Leblanc, had foreseen the “coup” by approaching Netflix.
"When we learned that they were preparing a series inspired by Arsène Lupine, we went to see Netflix France and they said yes right away for an exclusive partnership," said the director of Hachette Romans and the Livre de Poche Jeunesse, Cécile Térouanne, in
Le Parisien
.
The two had already worked together on books around the series
Riverdale
,
Sabrina
or
Stranger Things
.
"I must admit that I did not think it would go so fast," adds the editor in HuffPost.
The spontaneous and already very popular enthusiasm is incredible.
Three reprints are thus in progress, for a total of 60,000 copies of these new editions, 40,000 for the special reissue and 10,000 for each paperback edition.
The bookseller Jérôme takes the opportunity to stock up, he who

“This kind of craze is often succinct, and can run out of steam after two weeks.
