With 315 patients admitted, in the past 24 hours, the number of Covid-19 patients hospitalized in intensive care continued to climb on Tuesday from 2,803 to 2,829 on Monday, Public Health France announced.

The barrier of 2,800 people was crossed Monday for the first time since mid-December, marking an increase in the pressure on the hospital system.

A curfew to curb the epidemic

The number of patients hospitalized in all departments reached 25,532, at a similar level to Monday (25,584).

The number of daily deaths in hospital stands at 373, bringing to 49,696 the number of patients positive for Covid-19 who have died since mid-March 2020 in hospitals.

Adding the deaths in the updated Ephad Tuesday (21,646), that figure jumps to 71,342.

The number of new infections is 23,608, for a test positivity rate of 6.7%.

France has applied a general curfew at 6 p.m. since Saturday, fearing an epidemic rebound linked to the threat of new, more contagious variants of the coronavirus.

“Since the start of vaccination in France on December 26, 2020, 585,664 people have been vaccinated among the priority audiences defined by the health authorities,” the Ministry of Health also said.
