  • Can the refusal to perform an antigenic test for Covid-19 expose college students to home isolation measures?

  • This is indicated by a consent form for this type of screening which would have been distributed in a French college.

  • The National Education confirms the authenticity of the document at

    20 Minutes,

but specifies that it is an error of the management of the establishment and that home isolation measures are only provided in the event of positive test.

With the announced target of one million Covid-19 tests carried out in French schools, colleges and high schools by the February holidays, the government intends to avoid any massive spread of the epidemic in schools.

But does this screening campaign give rise to strict instructions, similar to sanctions, in the event of refusal by parents of pupils?

This is what suggests a document relayed by many Internet users on social networks.

The form relayed on social networks.

Entitled "Deployment of the antigenic test offer", this form, dated January 18, invites the parents of the pupils concerned to give their consent or not to the performance of an antigen test "within the college".

"In the event of a refusal on your part, your child will have to respect a seven-day preventive isolation at his home and you will be able to go to college twice a week, in order to recover his lessons", indicates in particular the document, which proposes also the temporary provision of a tablet in the event of home isolation.

, the Ministry of National Education confirms that "this document has indeed been distributed to the parents of students [of a] college in eastern France", but specifies: "In case of refusal of test, there will be no consequences for college students.

"

“This is a mistake on the part of the college administration.

The objective of this document was to ensure the continuity [of the work] of the students in the event of a positive test and not in the event of refusal to be tested, ”adds the ministry, while indicating that a“ new mail was sent to the parents of students ”.

Tests deployed in three scenarios

As can be seen on the National Education website, the anti-Covid-19 health protocol indeed provides that staff and students identified as risky contacts - outside of any test campaign within the establishment - " are not accepted in the school or establishment until the negative result of an RT-PCR or antigen test carried out 7 days after the last contact with the confirmed case.

"

“The legal representatives of the pupils must attest on their honor that the test has been carried out and that the result is negative.

In the absence of such a certificate, the school eviction is maintained until its production and for a maximum period of 14 days ”, further details the protocol.

Antigenic tests can be carried out within an establishment in three distinct scenarios: in the event of 3 positive cases confirmed over a period of 7 days, in areas of France where "the virus is actively circulating", or in the framework of a "strategy for controlling the spread of variants of the virus" which may give rise to a "systemic test campaign" on the advice of the Regional Health Agency (ARS), as soon as the presence of a variant of Covid-19 is suspected within an establishment.
