Last I heard, series creator and all-episode writer Steven Knight had planned to end the Shelby saga with season 7. And maybe one or more spin-offs.
Eventually, Season 6, currently in production, will be the last.

After the production delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we find the family facing extreme danger and stakes that have never been higher.
We think it will be the best of all seasons, and are sure our amazing fans will love it.
