"The effort to be made is not totally impossible"

“For this year, we have 683 million euros secured” by advertisers, explains Jean-Pierre Caillot.

"Our economic analyzes suggest that it would be necessary to arrive at a minimum of 800 million. I think that the effort to be made by a broadcaster is not completely impossible either, when we know the sums and the stakes that are set up. . "

The proposals of TF1, France Télévisions and M6 to broadcast the matches for free prove that "the product is premium and interesting", estimates the president of the Stade de Reims about Ligue 1. But these options are not to be privileged according to him, nor that of a takeover of Téléfoot - the channel created by Mediapro - by the LFP: "I am not sure that it is the business of football clubs, to make their own TV."

Jean-Pierre Caillot is more attracted by the hypothesis of an "OTT" service, in particular proposed by Jean-Michel Aulas, and which would offer a unique offer at an attractive price, without going through the chains.

"It can be a solution. Today we are in such a context that all avenues need to be explored," he breathes.

"I hope this week brings us back some warmth"

But the track to be favored remains, according to him, that of an agreement with Canal +, historical broadcaster of Ligue 1. While the channel seemed the most able to recover the rights of the championship, the boss of this one, Maxime Saada , yet decided last week for a new call for tenders - which could allow negotiation downwards.

"It blows hot and cold", comments Jean-Pierre Caillot.

"We had a cold snap at the end of the week, I hope this week brings us back some warmth."

"All conflicts are resolved from the moment people talk to each other," said the member of the professional football League's office, not finding "illogical" that there was "a little bit of rancor" on the side of Canal + after the Mediapro fiasco.

If this feeling were to prevail and in the absence of agreement, "we would have a meeting between presidents to know whether it is better to distribute for free and maintain our product, or to use the black screen [by temporarily ceasing to broadcast Ligue 1,

And the president of the Stade de Reims noted that despite the crisis, "there is no disengagement of subscribers" to Canal +, who according to him would "have an interest" in remaining the football channel.

"We think that if the situation continued, Canal would lose subscribers. Me first, who still subscribe to Canal, even though I can't see football matches there."
