The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) has lamented global inequality in access to corona vaccines and the vaccine manufacturers' greed for profit.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus criticized it on Monday at the start of a week-long meeting of the WHO executive committee that was held virtually from Geneva headquarters .

A poor country received only 25 doses of vaccine - "not 25 million, not 25,000 - only 25", while 39 million doses were inoculated in nearly 50 wealthier nations.

"I have to be blunt: the world is on the verge of catastrophic moral failure," said Tedros.

He did not say which country he said had received so few vaccine doses.

But a WHO spokeswoman revealed that it was Guinea.
